I have a lot of friends in the collectible car, truck, tractor, toy and sign hobbies that travel throughout the USA and Canada. One of them may be able to safely and economically deliver this to you depending on where you live and how soon you need it. This listing is for a hood assembly from an English built Austin A40 automobile. That vehicle was built between 1947 and 1952 in England. This hood measures 46″ wide by 44″ long and about 16 tall at the front where the grille is located. I have listed it here as an awning. I have to admit that that novel purpose for this item was not my idea. A doctor from the east coast was here in Bozeman Montana with his wife several years ago on a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost tour. He suggested that this hood would make a superb awning over the walk in door of his shop back home. His wife was more interested in restoring a double door GE monitor top refrigerator I had here. He was wise to concentrate on her passion rather than his. She did that so he could concentrate on his work and fly out here right before the event started and fly back home right after it ended. I talked a friend into helping me temporarily position this gem over the 36 wide door of a neighbor’s shop building. The flange around the back of this hood hooked over the 42 wide trim around the top of the door opening. We used a wood stick to support the front part for these photos. As you can see, there is enough room for the 36 wide door to open most of the way under this very special hood. If one wanted the door to open further, one would have to raise this hood about 8 higher than it is shown in these photos. If you decide to use this hood for an awning over a door or window, you will have to design and build the necessary brackets or supports to attach it to the building. No brackets or supports are included with this hood assembly. All of the steel parts on this hood are in excellent condition with no rusted out or even thin spots thanks to our relatively dry climate here in Montana. We receive an average of 13 of moisture here in a typical year counting both rain and snow. Many parts of this country can receive that much moisture in a month. There is very little paint remaining on this hood but the surface of the metal is not pitted at all. The chrome plated die-cast right hand grill has some minor damage but the left hand grille has more damage and is missing parts of the upper 2 bars. The chrome plated die-cast “wing” is missing a piece on the left end. The chrome plated die-cast vertical trim in the center is still very nice. The cloisonne enamel “Austin” emblem has some minor damage on it. The very distinctive chrome plated die-cast “Flying A” hood ornament is intact and looks nice but it does have a tiny crack at the bottom of one of the legs of the “A”. The pair of chrome plated die-cast emblems on both of the rear corners that say “Austin of England” are still in very nice condition with only a couple of tiny pits on each one. Here is a rate opportunity to dress up your home, shop, office or other building. Perhaps you are a contractor and have a customer who would like something like this innovation on their building. You might do well to give some very serious thought to taking advantage of this unique opportunity. Thanks a lot, Bob Woodburn in Bozeman Montana USA.
